Dinner @ Wired Cafe

Wired Cafe is a Japanese-style western restaurant which tries to be casual, hip and cool. It is another restaurant at Hysan Place that I regularly go for my comfort food.

Located on the top floor of the shopping mall, it was originally based in Tokyo and offered an eclectic food offering, free wi-fi, refillable coffee, interesting decor projecting a Japanese anime on the wall and a wonderful view of Causeway Bay.  Dinner at Wired Cafe costs around $150 - $200 per head and the service was energetic and friendly.

(1) We ordered a Avocado and Tuna Rice bowl ($93) and it looked like a salad bowl when it was served but you could find the sushi rice hidden beneath.  Avocado was a good match with soya sauce and fresh tuna.  The minced tuna toro was exceptionally fresh and of good quality.  The soya sauce with sawabi was fantastically made and added an excellent taste to the attractive healthy dish.

(2) The Curry Eggplant with rice ($83) was quite a fattening dish, but there was only eggplants and soft-boiled egg, so our only complaint was that there was no meat in it.  It seemed like a dish for people who liked plain veggies.  The accompanying fried eggplant was a nice and creative surprise. We thought it was fried potato skin at first!

(3) We absolutely loved the Chocolate Banana Whipped Cream Pancake ($78).  Wired Cafe seemed to be famous for its Dutch oven pancakes, so we were extra excited to see our dessert being served in a smoking hot pan.  We weren't disappointed: the pancake was accomplished.  It was topped with banana slices, chocolate sauce with whipped cream. The pancake smelled good and was crispy on the side but soft in the centre.  We loved the different textures in this dessert!

Overall remarks: If it's food that you are after, it may be better to visit other alternatives in Hysan Place because the portion was small and full of vegetables to retain the Japanese flavors. But if you want to enjoy some different traditional Japanese dish in a stylish cafe, or have some really good pancakes with nice music, Wired Cafe would be your best bet!
